What We Want

Assurances that our livestock will be handled humanely at every point from farm gate to slaughter with adequate sensible regulation and compliance in place to ensure that animal welfare issues are addressed in all areas including transport, saleyards, feedlots and abattoirs.
MLA – 100% of all levies paid for live export cattle to go directly to restoring the trade to Indonesia by:
- assisting exporters fulfill the new requirements
- funding equipment, infrastructure and training both in Indonesia and in Australia (there is a measurable benefit to all Australian beef producers in keeping the Indonesian trade strong)
Australian Government to fund at a minimum of dollar for dollar programs to support improved animal welfare outcomes in Indonesia from the Indonesian foreign aid budget
Legislation drafted so that no ban can ever again be placed on any exported product from Australia without satisfying a set of criteria developed in conjunction with industry, without consultation with industry, without adequate notice, without a detailed plan for the future.
MLA and other industry representative bodies which collect levies from producers to dedicate a percentage of those levies to counter the extreme vegan and animal activist lobby groups by engaging the general public directly. (There is a powerful animal activist lobby in operation which is targeting and making inroads into meat consumption so a well funded campaign to counter the propaganda is fully justifiable as part of a marketing operation to increase consumption.)
MLA and Australian government to assist in actively seeking alternative live export markets ensuring that adequate infrastructure and equipment is in place prior to the commencement of trade with new markets.
